Engagement Partner
On fixed projects, delivery responsibility sits with us. You are the person that responsibility sits with, and you are also the person who brought the work in.
This is a single role on purpose. The people who scope well are the people who have carried the date, and the people clients trust are the people who know their industry rather than ours.
What you will do
Build the portfolio. Find, open and win the engagements. Work the relationships that turn one project into a standing client, and hold them at engineering-leadership level, including the difficult conversations.
Scope honestly, then protect the scope. Scope engagements alongside an engineer, in days, producing a scope, a date and a price the business can stand behind. Say no to fixed-price work that should not be fixed price, and make the case for a managed team or a three to six-month engagement instead.
Run the delivery. Two to three concurrent engagements, protecting scope against the drift that would otherwise eat the schedule, and closing them out properly: handover, documentation, and leaving.
Contribute the industry knowledge. Sector context is what makes a scoping conversation credible in the first hour rather than the third meeting. You are expected to bring a domain and to keep it current, publicly as well as privately.
What we look for
- You have carried a delivery date commercially and know the difference between that and a project plan.
- A track record of originating work, not only delivering work handed to you.
- Technical enough to challenge an estimate and to know when an engineer is telling you something important.
- Depth in at least one sector that buys engineering at scale.
- Willing to lose a deal rather than agree to a date that only holds if nothing surprises anyone.

Apply for this role
We will look at your track record of engagements before anything else.
Application received. We read every one, and we will come back to you either way.
Before you go
We build in the open, and we would like to keep doing it.
A large part of what makes a six-week delivery possible is open source software that somebody else maintained, for free, for years. We contribute back to the projects our work depends on, and we fund maintainers who do not have an employer behind them.
If that matters to you too, consider chipping in. It goes to the same place our own contributions do.
Handled by PayPal. Entirely optional, and it has no bearing on your application.
